Update

Hello there.

I thought that by now you would all be wondering how Jaz is getting on. I promised her even though Im not nearly as good as her at this I would help Caitlin update while she was away.

I have a feeling it will probably help me get through this chapter in our lives.

Jaz has had a really tough time. Her operation on Monday did not go to plan, she had troubles with a blood vessel close to her brain tumor that started to bleed. It has caused what they have said in basic terms a stroke.

With the problem blood vessel, the trauma from the operation and now a build up of fluid she is unable to speak or move her right hand side.

I spent some time with her this morning along with Caitlin and today she smiled and gave us both a teary one armed hug.
It was hard for Caitlin seeing her like that but I think she needed to see one of her girls. A reminder from me that she has an awful lot to get better for.

My beautiful wife and mother to my girls is still in there trying to get out. It is incredibly hard seeing her like this but at this point in time there is nothing more we can do but wait.
The future will probably bring us another 5 or so weeks in hospital and then 6 months in rehabilitation depending on how badly she has been effected.

I look into her eyes and I can see the pain and frustration this is causing her. I know that she would sooner be writing this and I definitely know she will scold me for any incorrectly used comers or full stops but until then I will keep you all posted as often as I can.

Until then I need all of you to think positively and help me get this amazing funny beautiful lady through a terrible time.

Regards

Mark Treacy

  3. Hi Mark. Firstly can I say that your courage in confronting the feelings that writing this must cause is, I think I can say with absolute certainty, very much appreciated by all those who are so fond of Jaz and her family through her blog. There are many of us sending positive thoughts in your direction during this ordeal.

  10. (I hope this works ... I'm a newbie to Blogs)

Mark, my name is Hilary and I was both a student of Anne's and a fellow jazzband member of Jaz at Mahu College. In fact, there are several of us who fit the same description who are anxiously following Jasmine's progress and praying for the best. Some of us still live near Warkworth, and relatively near at hand if you need us. Others in the Waikato. Thank you so much for your update today. Our hopes and prayers are with you at this time. And I, for one, look forward to actually meeting you in person someday. Love to you all. God bless.

  13. Mark, it's Aimee here: what a beautiful and heart-wrenching message. I can literally hear your voice. I have read it over and over and Jaz will be so proud of you when she looks back and reads it one day. Which I just KNOW will happen. We can't stop thinking about you all and we'll do anything we can to help over the next little while. All our love, thoughts and wishes, Aims, Gav and the girls. xoxoxoxo.

  14. I just posted on a previous post, not seeing this update. I know I don't know you, but I can empathise. As I mentioned in previous post, my mum went through neurosurgery 2 years ago, age 46, following a stroke. Her surgery also did not go to plan and she was left with little to no movement down her left side. With rehab work, and a determined mind, she has come so far in the last 2 years, to meet her you would not realise what she has been through. It sounds as though you have a very loving family there to support you also, and I wish you all the best.

  16. Thinking of you in this difficult time. Sounds like Jaz has a fighting spirit which is putting up a good fight!

I also just wanted to say that hard as it may be for your children to see Jaz in hospital, you are absolutely doing the right thing by being honest and open with them about it. Believe me, they will thank you for it in the future. My Mum spent a lot of time in hospital when I was younger, but she did her best to hide it from me by scheduling trips to hospital when I was at school etc. As a result it took me years to face up to her illness and cope with its legacy.
